A Rose for Emily

It’s a strange thing to mourn those who are still alive
File away the past into another archive
In the flames we burned away, I tried to contrive
A method to the madness, a way we could thrive
They say once it is ashes, you cannot revive
A Rose for Emily, just as lovely as her
All roses wilt, never the same as they once were
I hold onto them, though they can’t last forever
Gripping the stem, but the petals fell to the floor
They scattered and blew away, and then I was sure
Goodbye dear friend, thank you for all the memories
Paradise lost, no need for your apologies.
